Overview

The Licensed Psychiatric Technician consults with the Registered Nurse/Physician/Psychiatrist to ensure appropriate medical interventions. The Licensed Psychiatric Technician is responsible to carry out any orders received from the Physician and Registered Nurse and attends treatment team as indicated. Licensed Psychiatric Technician is responsible for assisting and supporting residents through the entire treatment experience from admission through discharge.  Licensed Psychiatric Technician is responsible for contributing insightful, practical, and meaningful information to the treatment planning process. 

Qualifications

  • Must have considerable knowledge of nursing principles and practice
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of medications and their proper application and use
  • Able to take vital signs
  • Able to provide First Aid
  • Must be licensed in current state

Responsibilities

  • Greets and welcomes new resident within 15 minutes of admission.
  • Orients new resident to the treatment program, its requirements, intent, and routine.
  • Implements physician/psychiatrist orders.
  • Administers medication as prescribed.
  • Counts narcotics each day, logs appropriately.
  • Meets regularly with medical and treatment team staff to discuss resident treatment.
  • Gathers information regarding residents’ physical/mental health status and reports information to RN or physician/psychiatrist.
  • Is available for twenty-four hour on-call duty when necessary.
  • May take vital signs and perform basic evaluative procedures and tests as ordered
  • Assists when necessary with medication pick-up.
  • Contributes to the planning and carrying out of nursing care.
  • Documents all interactions with resident as per Center For Discovery Policy.
  • Adheres to scheduled meal times and rest breaks.
  • Complies with the Discovery Dress Code.
  • Answers the telephone promptly and politely as well as responds in writing when necessary. Manages and oversees incoming and outgoing correspondence over the facility’s telephone facsimile.
  • Attends designated meetings.
  • Makes timely requests for annual leave as needed and reports sick leave per Discovery policy.
  • Establishes realistic goals within the position.
  • Maintains confidential nature of all resident and related activities.
  • May be required to travel to other facilities from time to time for trainings.
  • Facilitates treatment plan set forth by the Therapist by providing day-today support to residents and if residents need to “check-in”, help residents engage in a positive coping skill. Directs residents in a clear, concise, and informative manner.
  • Will work during meal periods to help model good behaviors to residents, redirect eating disorder behaviors, and to meet regulatory and approved program standards as allowed by applicable state wage and hour laws. The meals will be provided by the employer at no charge to the employee and the time will be treated as hours worked.
  • Familiarizes self with the Philosophy, Mission, goals, and objectives of the Center for Discovery Adolescent Treatment Programs. Complies with all Discovery policies and procedures. Attends all designated meetings.
  • Performs related duties as required.
