Overview

The Insurance Verification Specialist contact a patient’s insurance company to verify coverage levels and works with individuals to educate them on their benefits information. They serve as a valued member of the Center For Discovery team, helping patients get the medical procedures they need. Working with the admissions department in crucial in this role and having a positive team player approach is required. The environment is fast paced at times.

Qualifications

  • Required: High school diploma.
  • Preferred: College AA or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences.
  • One or two years of experience working in a hospital admissions or billing setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and are familiar with insurance and hospital billing policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • The insurance verification specialist is responsible for verifying patient insurance coverage, to ensure necessary procedures are covered by an individual’s provider.
  • Responsible for entering data in an accurate manner, as it is there job to update patient benefit information in the organization’s insurance system and verify that existing information is accurate.
  • This position requires professionals to spend extensive amounts of time on the phone with insurance companies.
  • This person must also be willing to perform light administrative duties as needed.
