Overview

The Psychiatrist is responsible to consult with the CEO/Director of Outpatient Services to ensure appropriate psychiatric/pharmacological interventions.  The Psychiatrist sees each client and completes a psychiatric assessment.  If indicated, medications are prescribed, and monitored by the Psychiatrist at least once weekly. In addition, the Psychiatrist consults as needed with the treatment team and may attend the treatment planning meetings.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of an approved medical school and licensed in the state of which he/she is practicing.
  • Eligible for membership in the local branch of the State Medical Society.
  • Must be experienced in adolescent psychiatry and treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Meets regularly in a collaborative fashion with the CEO/Director of Outpatient Services to discuss individual treatment progress.
  • Acts on behalf of the treatment program when called upon. Such interactions may include insurance companies, licensing and accreditation bodies.
  • Sees individual clients to monitor progress as indicated.
  • Provides a second opinion evaluation when needed.
  • Assists program treatment staff in treatment planning and attends treatment team when able.
  • Provides medical direction to the treatment team.
  • Assists in the identification of continuing medical educational needs and provides input to the Director of Performance Improvement for development of appropriate in-service education and training for the Treatment staff.

Knowledge/skills/competencies:

Must have a thorough knowledge of pediatric medicine, diagnostic assessment, and all related treatment interventions.  Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability and knowledge. Must be able to communicate with persons of all educational and cultural backgrounds.  Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.  Must demonstrate tact, initiative, resourcefulness, professional manner, enthusiasm, and a non-judgmental attitude.

  • Able to identify, differentiate and diagnose the range of adolescent and adult psychiatric disorders.
  • Able to develop appropriate and effective psychopharmacological interventions for adolescent psychiatric disorders.
  • Ability to interface with families of clients for consent and support of psychopharmacological interventions.
  • Ability to effectively identify, conceptualize and communicate criteria specific to the cliental level of treatment and formulate and effective appeal for insurance carriers as necessary.
  • Ability to effectively interface with the treatment team, contributing to the case conceptualization, treatment plan and assessment of the ongoing effectiveness of the interventions.
