    Position Overview

    The Diet Tech consults with the Registered Dietitian to ensure implementation of the best standard of nutrition and dietary services. Responsibilities include dietary support, grocery budget allocation, client menu planning, maintaining a clean and well stocked kitchen, cooking and baking as recommended, and appropriately discerning between appropriate and inappropriate client eating behaviors. This experience will prepare you to be a Registered Dietitian with hands on experience, learning from awesome professionals, and working closely with a complex population.

    On Call schedule means there are no guaranteed hours. On Call Diet Techs cover paid time off of other Diet Techs. 


    Facility Details

    This position is in a residential eating disorder facility with comprehensive family program and family support. The facility is a homelike setting in a residential neighborhood (view our website for a virtual tour). Treatment in this setting allows our residents to feel more comfortable in familiar surroundings and provides greater transferability and internalization of the treatment experience to life after treatment. 

    In our small, intimate settings we treat a maximum of eight clients at a time to optimize individualization for clients and families maintain an intimate setting and a high staff to client ratio.



    • Experience in implementation of dietary exchange pattern preferred
    • The Diet Tech must be pursuing a career in the field of Nutrition, through an Accredited Undergraduate Program in Nutrition or Diet Tech Certification Program.
    • Must also have the ability to provide documentation or obtain a state required food handlers permit, or Serve Safe Certification, upon hire.
    • The Diet Tech must have experience in dietary education



    • Maintains a well-stocked kitchen through grocery purchases, upholding proper sanitation requirements.
    • Analyze food service providers to ensure quality products at cost effective prices.
    • Purchase all grocery items for facility, considering variety, special diets, and food safety.
    • Prepare dinner daily, monitoring client consumption of appropriate exchange pattern.
    • Cook and bake with clients as therapeutically recommended by Dietitian.
    • Participate in fun food challenge and restaurant experiences.
    • Enforce dietary program and advise clients appropriately on food choices.
    • Conducts client calorie counts weekly.


    Must have a thorough knowledge of nutrition and dietary interventions in the mental health field; able to communicate with persons from all educational and cultural backgrounds; have strong written and verbal communication skills; must demonstrate tact, initiative, resourcefulness, professional manner, enthusiasm, and a non-judgmental attitude. Our Diet Techs are self-motivated and creative.

    • Must have a sound knowledge of motivational interviewing.
    • Able to demonstrate understanding of the medical consequences of eating disorders, the hazards of re-feeding and how to avoid complications.
    • Able to implement an individualized menu plan for each of the different types of eating disorders.
    • Must have the ability to implement specific dietary exchange patterns through knowledge of portion size and caloric recommendations set by the Dietitian.
    • Must have the ability to maintain professional boundaries with staff and clients.
    • Must have the ability to communicate effectively to all staff in implementing the dietary program.
